We have a homeschool co op with some great friends. We are studying world geography and sometimes using Galloping the Globe. Our first week we learned about Russia and we got these adorable books to take home and color.
The second week we did Japan.
We talked about where Japan is in relation to the United States. We ate sushi and Pocky sticks, and Japanese cakes called Mochi cakes
We learned about Samurai which the boys particularly enjoyed.
This book A to Zen was awesome. It shares something about Japan for each letter of the alphabet. The coolest part though is that the book opens the other way – like books do in Japan. Our teacher showed us various types of origami, showed how Japanese pasta compares to ours and Daruma dolls!
We studied Japanese for a few years and the one thing the children really remember is Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.
